Light at the end of the tunnel
"Have you seen "Tokyo Drift”? - asked fussing Gleb from Victor and Ekaterina. Many of the participants are not aware or vaguely suspect something, but the next day the heroes of the reality show will get a fair amount of pure adrenaline. On an old airdrome in the mountains a race tickling the nerves will take place with the full range of consequences, including the cheerful state of mind.
In the interview with Professor Nazaraliev, Ekaterina remarks that she came to another country for medical treatment, and she discovered how the world is rich and that she didn’t see much by her 27 years. But not all members think the same way; some of them gave up the smell of burning rubber, broad-hipped speed drifts and soreness of the mouth on the teeth, they left lying on the lounge chairs in the clinic. Gleb who thinks of himself as a continuation of a sports car, got very excited. "I've been doing it," - he pointed to the notebook showing the sports entries to the other participants of the show.
Gleb confessed to the Professor that a fully equipped car for drifting, dismantled for parts, is not less than 50 thousand, but he would never have sold the parts to buy a dose. Gleb wasn’t interested in girls - aggressive sports and heroin twisted into a cigarette, that's all he needed. Apparently, he has been the only person in professional sport, who ended up not very well in the track of life.
"They have five minutes to be fixed" - he comments on what is happening on the laptop screen. "How old are you? - the Professor asks. - So you're already late, you need to quickly catch up. Do you know what people achieve at your age?" Gleb understands everything well. He also understands that he still has a little time left to repair a hiccup adhesion with his life and drive to the racing track with a confident remission.
On an asphalt road, among the sunset mountains, Gleb does miracles with the car given by the local racers and he fully comes to life only when the tires are ripped up to the copper wire. Other project participants who gathered to support Gleb also drifted through life badly. They also drive out quick as the wind with the local drifting kings, while Gleb seems too enthusiastic even on the not adapted to racing track, risks making a junkyard.
The Professor also talks to Anatoliy about the severities of life. The question about Ekaterina - will he connect his future with her? After spending the night in the same room, which is strictly against the rules, the project participants had almost brought down a social condemnation. Anatoliy’s mother painfully accepted this trick. Not least, she worried about the treatment violation. This could be enough to be eliminated from the project, but the doctors have long been working on the implementation of the scenario of their joint future. Therefore, no one from the clinic staff didn’t draw any attention to the minor violation.
Ekaterina is very emotional, impulsive and pliant. "If she will need a nurse further, then we will not work out," - says Anatoliy. The problem is that right now, Ekaterina behaves like an obedient pupil under the wing of Anatoliy. Meanwhile, the past and loved ones can actually injure. She chokes with sadness, the consciousness of her powerlessness and futility of everything, when she calls home and talks to her father. Difficult financial situation, request to not come back and unpleasant conversation with Anatoliy’s mother, driven Ekaterina into a corner.
But Anatoliy’s profession is a subway builder, a true magadan man ready to work hard; he encourages hope to his experience of tunnel building even in a hopeless darkness. The light will definitely break through; Ekaterina only needs to rely on him. This somewhat contradicts a request of Anatoliy to relieve him of his duties as a nanny. On the other hand, it was not scary to inject in the neck, so you can rely on him in exploration of the new places – St. Petersburg? Moscow? – the most importantly, as long as there is a subway. After all, the project participants are desperately looking for the tunnels leading to the light.
